I love to travel. I have always enjoyed experiencing life in other cultures and there are so many to see and experience that I have only just begun. I had the opportunity this past May to travel to the Philippines to visit some friends who work on the island of Mindanao. We spent a few days in the city of Cagayan de Oro at a place called Appletree Resort before moving on to the city of Iligan. I brought back a collection of images that caught my eye, and I would like to share some of them with you here.
This is the Appletree Resort as seen from the beach.
Sunset and sunrise over the bay.
From early morning until well after dark, the water is occupied by fishermen, hoping to make a good catch. Some set nets out with their boats. The man on the right and his companion set out their net by hand and hauled it in on the shore as seen in the image below.
Locals launch a fishing boat as the sun sets over the marketplace.
I took a ride in an outrigger canoe to see the bay and enjoy a little time on the water. This was my guide.
After we left Cagayan de Oro we spent the remainder of our time in a more isolated setting outside the city of Iligan.
I have seen Mosques in Turkey, India, Albania and Detroit, and this one in the jungle had quite a different feel to it.
In closing, this is the Maria Cristina waterfall near Iligan. We visited the beautiful site with our friends and on the way back we stopped for some durian. This woman sold us the best durian I have ever tasted. I have to admit I have only tried it twice, but this was the best!
