Little Monk

Last week we went for a hike at the North Santiam park. At the end of the trail we played around the river’s edge. There was a calm pool of water that the kids had fun splashing in, and not surprisingly, some of that splashing was done head first. When the fun was over I carried Malachi back to the car and got him out of his wet clothes. Of course we hadn’t planned for the kids to get wet, […]

Cape Kiwanda first light

Cape Kiwanda

We have had a gorgeous summer here in Oregon, with no rain to speak of since we arrived in July. There has been constant talk of the good weather coming to an end any day, and that day finally came. Torrey and I brought the kids down to Garibaldi on Tillamook Bay to spend a few days with my cousin Daniel and his family. We got here Thursday and the weather was perfect, but overnight the rains began. So this […]

Three Fingered Jack over Marion Lake at first light

Fall Color at Marion Lake

Saturday morning my alarm went off at 4 am. I rolled out of bed, got dressed, grabbed my backpack and hopped in my car. I was headed to pick up Jake, a friend from here in Lyons, to go for a hike to Marion Lake. Jake is a great photographer and an avid outdoorsman, so it was really a great delight to spend the day in his company, hiking through the wilderness and photographing the beginnings of fall color at […]

Family Photos

A friend of mine here in Lyons recently told me she was disappointed that I don’t have photos of my own kids on my website. Surely I must have plenty of good photos of them, she reasoned, so where are they? Well, I do have quite a lot of photos of Alethia and Malachi, so I thought I’d go through my catalog and pull out a few favorites from the year. Some are from California and others were taken after […]

Tirolean dancers performing at Oktoberfest in Mt Angel

Octoberfest in Mt Angel

This past weekend we spent an afternoon out as a family at the Mt Angel Oktoberfest. There was a great area there for kids with bounce houses, pony rides, a petting zoo and a hay maze. Throughout the town there were all kinds of food and entertainment. We particularly enjoyed the Tirolean Dancers who performed at the village bandstand. Here are a few photos of the dancers and one of the St Mary Catholic Church to close things out. If […]

Pumpkin Scones on a Cake Tray

Sugar and Spice Bakery

I spent a little time last week down at Sugar and Spice Bakery in Lyons, Oregon. Sugar and Spice is a great little spot that offers all sorts of delightful treats. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you stop by and pay a visit and try some of these goodies. I am confident you will be glad you did. Pictured here are the Pumpkin Scones, Snickerdoodle Muffins, Bacon and Cheddar Biscuits, Blueberry Coffee Cake and Apple […]

Cylindrical hay bales in a field with a layer of early morning fog

Hay Bales and Early Morning Fog in Stayton, Oregon

We moved here to Oregon at the beginning of the dry, sunny days of summer. So from the time we got here fields were being mowed and hay baled throughout the region and I was intrigued by the scenes I saw. I have never seen fields of hay bales in LA. Then one afternoon I was driving through Stayton when I passed this field. I liked the look of it and I wanted to come back to photograph it […]

Young girl in Stayton Oregon plays at the edge of a corn field

Daniel and Sara Family Portraits in Stayton

I met up with Daniel and Sara at their house in Stayton and we drove out to the family farm for our portrait session. We spent some time in the corn field, some more in the beans, and we finished the day at the railroad crossing on the way back to town. While we were in the corn field, a bird followed us around everywhere. Daniel named the bird Leroy, and you can see his portrait below as well. I […]

Gabel Family Reunion in Albany

Last weekend I drove down to Albany to photograph the Gabel family reunion. We have gotten to know Jeremy and Katie over the past several weeks since we moved to the area, and it was a real pleasure to meet some more of their family. Every summer the family gathers at the old family farm, and I had the pleasure of spending one beautiful afternoon with them. Here are a few of the images from our time together.

Tenderness between bride and groom

Jay and Kim’s Wedding

A couple of weeks ago I got to photograph my first wedding here in Salem, Oregon. A friend from church was scheduled to take photos at Jay and Kim’s wedding, and she was willing to let me tag along and join the fun. Jay and Kim had a very nice small wedding in their back yard followed by a reception with more of their friends in the same location. It was a beautiful setting for the event. Thank you Jay […]
